The Robert Niklaus Fund

The Robert Niklaus Fund was established by the University of Exeter on the occasion of Professor Niklaus's 90th birthday in July 2000. Its aim is to honour his great contribution to the study of the French eighteenth century. Sadly, Professor Niklaus died earlier this year, but the fund will allow his name and reputation to live on through its encouragement of young scholars.

Up to two postgraduate scholarships of £1000 are available to support students wishing to do research on the French eighteenth century at the University of Exeter.

The University of Exeter has considerable research strengths in eighteenth-century French studies. Two full-time members of staff have strong research interests in this area, with particular specialisms in fiction, the visual arts and the history of ideas. A number of postgraduate students have completed degrees in recent years on topics connected with the French eighteenth century, and an interdisciplinary research group exists to facilitate links with other departments. Thanks to Robert Niklaus and his successors, the library holdings in this area are particularly rich.

Anybody wishing to receive further details of the scheme should contact either Professor Malcolm Cook or Dr. Melissa Percival at the University of Exeter.
